Topping Off Your Car Fluids

Oil Change

Power Steering Fluid

Keeping your car properly maintained means making sure the fluids are properly topped off. While some fluids need to be changed regularly, others can last for thousands upon thousands of miles before needing to be flushed. It's best to consult the manufacturer-suggested service schedule in your owner's manual, but keep these fluids in mind the next time you pop the hood.

No other fluid needs to be changed as often as oil. Designed to lubricate, cool, and protect the engine, oil is one of the most important fluids in a vehicle. Old oil can dissipate and burn when driving, so it's best to check the dipstick every few hundred miles or so, depending on the age of the vehicle.

Power Steering Fluid

A vehicle's steering wheel only turns when the power steering fluid is topped off and ready to roll. Without power steering fluid, even the strongest of drivers would struggle to maneuver quickly. Inspect the power steering fluid if there's a change in how the vehicle handles.

Brake Fluid

Brake fluid allows the brakes to successfully stop the vehicle. This hydraulic fluid creates the pressure required to power the brakes. High moisture content can make the brake fluid less effective, causing a shift in how the car stops. Consider replacing the brake fluid if the vehicle seems to struggle when slowing down.

Make a service appointment at Muller Toyota to have your fluids inspected and replaced if necessary.
