Why Winter Tires?

Safety is the number one reason to install winter tires on your Toyota vehicle.

A set of four matched winter tires can help you meet the challenges of driving through snow, ice, slush and subfreezing temperatures.

Winter tires offer more grip, controlled acceleration and stopping power under these conditions than all-season tires can offer, without compromising dry road handling and performance.

Why is a Set of Four Matched Winter Tires Necessary?

To avoid understeer (the front tires do not follow the trajectory the driver is trying to impose while taking the corner, instead following a straight line) or oversteer (the rear wheels do not track behind the front wheels but slide toward the outside of the turn, throwing the vehicle into a spin) always install winter tires in sets of four. Installing only two can lead to an excessive difference in road grip capability between front and rear tires which could diminish vehicle control.

Winter Tires Enhance ABS and Vehicle Stability Systems

Winter tires decrease the risk of your brakes locking up. Your vehicle's stopping and cornering power is only as good as the tires on the vehicle, and your tires are all that is between the wheel and the road. With electronics that monitor grip and stability, a perceived loss of grip will activate the vehicle's controls that communicate with your winter tires, telling them how to compensate and correct trajectory.

New Winter Tire Technology

Modern winter tires are not the same as the old, heavy, noisy, studded snow tires with hard, brittle treads. Winter tires offer more grip due to advancements in technology.

New Compounds

Innovations in rubber compound technologies have created a new generation of winter tires. These advanced winter compounds are designed and formulated to deliver more grip as the temperature goes down because the tire stays soft and pliable. Today's winter tires enhance traction without resorting to studs.

Unique Tread Designs

The advent of computer-aided design has resulted in the development of a variety of effective tread patterns. These new, block shapes pack more snow into the treads which build a stronger base for the tire to push against. Tread blocks give you the power to stop.

The tread design is further enhanced by the addition of multiple sipes. These numerous squiggly grooves in the tread blocks operate like mini-squeegees. When driving, they cut through water and slush to create a better contact patch for the tread and thus, greater traction.
